ISO 11140-4 Type 2 (BD-1x)
Bowie and Dick Test Packs and Test Sheets detect the presence of residual air in prevacuum steam sterilizers-autoclaves operating at 121° – 134°C. The internal Indicator sheet will demonstrate a uniform color change from Blue to Pink for Product Code BD-1X or Blue to Dark for Product Code A4TS when proper conditions for sub-atmospheric pulsing have been met. A Test Sheet yielding inconsistent color transition is indicative of one or more of the following being insufficient: exposure temperature, exposure time, vacuum depth, number of vacuum pulses, steam penetration, or air removal.
A Bowie Dick test should be performed at least once daily on the bottom shelf, over the drain closest to the door in an otherwise empty chamber. Product Code BD-1X is designed to be placed directly into the sterilizer-autoclave as the Test Sheet is containedwithin the Test Pack. Product Code A4TS is designed to be placed into a towel pack in accordance with ISO 11140-3.
Per ISO 11140-3 and 11140-4, exposures shall be performed at 121°C for 15 minutes or 134°C for 3.5 minutes. Please consult with Customer Service regarding evaluation at times or temperatures outside those recommended.
